A tale of two friends ! {IBMC 05/10}

IBMC #05: The Not So Quite Quote Challenge

This is my fifth post for IBMC. This challenge involves writing a story using five provided quotes. These are:

Quote 01
I am confused at times. Should I sound? Should I echo?

Quote 02
You need not answer all the questions! You can just laugh and laugh again.

Quote 03
Thoughts – they do what we don’t ask for!

Quote 04
I knew it! That I don’t know!

Quote 05
At times, we pretend to think on one and actually think everything else!

So here’s the story I cooked !

“How have you been ?”, “Did you take all those medicines on time ?”, “Are you sure you want to know now ?”,”Will you really be fine ?”, he asked her before revealing the results of all the tests she’d been through last week. He felt a little worried and reflected upon his sudden inquisitive outburst, “Thoughts – they do what we don’t ask for!”.

The room filled with a strange sense of depressing silence. She liked him, and felt strongly about their long association, both professionally and personally. She hesitated at first but finally mustered up some courage and blurted out, “I am confused at times. Should I sound? Should I echo?“.

He considered her, not only a patient but also a dear friend, in fact his oldest one. Sensing the ghastly tension in the room, he broke into an impromptu laughter, hoping she would reciprocate. With no apparent response, he reassured her, “You need not answer all the questions! You can just laugh and laugh again !” and managed to get a faint, uneasy smile in response.

Tangled in her own thoughts, she replied, “I knew it ! That I don’t know ! And perhaps I don’t want to know ! But I reckon I must know !“

“At times, we pretend to think on one and actually think everything else !“, chaos in his mind, he swiftly composed himself and told her ….
