Stress – Bloganuary 2023

From my misc-pics-box here is a photo from Toulouse France when I was there on my first work-trip in April 2022.

Welcome to Bloganuary, a WordPress Challenge I am participating in this month, that provides a daily writing prompt throughout January.

Day 9 prompt is: What is the most memorable gift you have received?

Honestly speaking, as I grow older, I have started feeling very pressured with the idea of gifts. Yes it’s good to receive and give gifts. But sometimes, I just don’t understand what I’m supposed to gift friends and family. Being a wannabe minimalist myself I don’t like the idea of buying random things as gifts. I like gifting things that people can use but isn’t that too subjective or personal? I think the best gift could be cash or a very generic gift card, so the person can use it to their own wish. But isn’t that too impersonal or detatched? I’m still struggling to make such small decisions and more of the times decide on the latter.

This prompt reminds me about one of the most memorable gifts I received from my brother. Back when we were kids, we used to fight endlessly. He is 4 years younger than me. The thing we used to fight for the most was watch time on the TV. On one of my birthdays he gifted me a paper cutout with a TV remote drawn on it. It was a memorable gift indeed.

I wasn’t really inspired by today’s prompt. Moreover I was up till 1 am last night writing yesterday’s post where I wrote a lot and wrote from my heart. My Monday at work was productive nonetheless, and I did manage to hit the gym as well. But I am just so tired and decided to take it a bit easy today. So I would sleep at 10 pm as per my usual schedule. Thanks for reading the shortest post I’ve ever done on my blog.

See you tomorrow!

  1. I have a hard time purchasing gifts for others. I want the gift to be useful, not just an item I give them. Your brother’s gift showed he knew what you really wanted, the TV remote.
