I never knew I was a cat person until 1.5 years ago. That was when Lucy first walked into my life. She was around 2 years old at that time. Her pawrents share the backyard with us and we’ve never really talked to them. But we noticed Lucy and her brother Bounty casually spending time in our garden. Gradually we became friends and I’ve written a bit about our first summer together in 2022 in this post
Then came 2023 and our bond only grew stronger. In February end I found out that I was pregnant. Looking back at all the time we spent together particularly in those early weeks where Lucy loved sitting on my belly, I guess she knew about the baby even before me.
Through the summer we chilled out a lot. We even moved to another apartment right next to our old one and Lucy found her way into our new home too.

When I started my maternity leave in September, Lucy was my constant companion. She would come in every afternoon and we’d sleep together for hours. She loved sitting on my belly and making biscuits on me, kneading her way into my heart. It was truly the best bit of my day.

In November we welcomed our daughter Avni. Even though it’s winter time, Lucy does visit us in the apartment once in a while. But she totally ignores the elephant in the room (the baby). It’s so funny. As soon as I bring my 2 month old daughter close to Lucy for some sort of an introduction, she runs away. I could imagine her being scared of toddlers who are unpredictable and may jump on her or grab her. But I never thought she’d run away from a baby.
I really hope they become friends soon.

Awww… can’t get away from Lucy now. It takes a while for a cat to warm up on anything. My cat’s name is Lucy as well. Welcome to your new born, Mom. What did you name your child?

Thanks a lot. My daughter’s name is Avni (meaning The Earth in Hindi). Yes Lucy is the sweetest and I understand it will take a while. I hope they become friends soon! 🙂
